New York once had the best public transportation in the world. Yet years of disinvestment has diminished the MTA’s promise. Worse, thousands of Bronx residents are priced out of public transportation, limiting their job opportunities. Residents who can’t afford to pay the toll are frequently faced with unjust arrests as the MTA cracks down on fare evasion, ensuring their place in an imbalanced criminal justice system.

 

However, by fairly taxing Wall Street and big business, we can make the MTA free for all New York City residents and raise money to expand services. Universal MTA access is critical for restoring the South Bronx, and Amanda is prepared to lead.
